Carleen
Clarke’s BUT I CAN STILL DANCE is an indispensable book for
everyone. It is a story of care…specifically the caregiving
of a loved one. It is a blend of powerful storytelling and practical
information. It is a Caregiver’s Survival Guide by a woman
who not only can still “dance” but shows others how
to cope and carry on also.
Framed by her 16 years as a caregiver to her ailing husband, Carleen
explores her personal experience of loss, guilt, loneliness, and
finally hope. But I Can Still Dance guides the reader to make good
decisions not only for the person needing care, but for the ‘caregiver’
themselves.
Clarke has lectured and taught classes at the Didi Hirsch Community
Mental Health Center and the Oasis Family Service Center in Los
Angeles. She is also a regular speaker at USC Caregiver’s
Resource Program 48-Hour Retreats. She is currently scheduled to
speak at AARP & EduCare’s 4th Annual ‘Caring for
the Caregiver’ Conference, Wellington Place Assisted Living
and the Mizell Senior Center located in Palm Desert. Her radio guest
appearances include the Patti Patane Show, Dr. Judi Hollis, T.L.C.,
and the Joey English show.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Carleen attended U.C.L.A
and the University of Texas. She owned her own clothing company,
Cardicini, where she designed and manufactured a line of tennis
clothes. She was also a successful Real Estate Agent for Fred Sands
Beverly Hills, until her husband became advanced in his disease.
She has not looked back. “The richest rewards of life are
sprinkled along the way of the journey and not found at the end
of the rainbow.” She goes on to say “…what has
given me the most satisfaction and the feeling of greatest achievement
is the experience of caregiving for my husband.”
Carleen currently resides in Palm Desert, California,
and works as a commercial actress. She is actively involved in the
Variety Club International and is in the Patroness Circle of the
Muses-McCallum Theatre. |
